Potassium Iodine For Radiation And Other Natural Protectors

The following information is for education only and is not meant to diagnose, prescribe, or treat illness.

The dangers of radiation have certainly come to light following the recent meltdown at Fukushima. This may affect a lot of people that aren't even in the surrounding areas as it is said that the radiation is being blown into other countries, including the U.S. and Canada.

A lot of people are looking towards natural products for protection against some of the ill effects of radiation exposure, be it from a nuclear fallout or even increased exposure from x-rays. To protect the thyroid, which is a gland that can be affected in these situations, people are looking to potassium iodine (or iodide) pills or tablets to help keep iodine levels in check, and potentially protect against thyroid cancer. They can also protect the thyroid from both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

Potassium iodide is an FDA approved product. Here's how it works in a nutshell: The thyroid, having the inability to differentiate between stable iodine and radioactive iodine will absorb whatever becomes available. When taking potassium iodide, it essentially floods the thyroid with iodine, which prevents it from taking in anymore. So, it is more meant as a pro-active measure to prevent radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid. This can be helpful against radioactive iodine from the air, from water and from food.

Additionally, there are several whole foods that can help strengthen or possibly heal the thyroid, or assist in a detox to rid the body of radiation, or naturally increase levels of iodine.

Seaweeds, which are often already part of a raw food health protocol (including kelp, nori, dulse and others) are great choices for potentially boosting iodine naturally. Chlorella and spirulina, superfoods derived from algaes, have shown benefit in neutralizing radiation and removing toxins and heavy metals from the body. Often, these foods are also used by those who consume a raw foods diet.

Immune strengthening and organ toning foods can also play a role in dealing with radiation related issues. Medicinal mushrooms, such as reishi mushrooms are being recommended. Additonally, wild greens, or even domesticated bitter greens can help strengthen the organs making them less susceptible to dangerous toxins.

This is a very tragic situation, there is no doubt, but I hope that if any good comes from it, people will come to understand the importance of proper nutrition and its role in the bodies natural defence mechanisms. Perhaps, we can also learn that the opposite is often true, that some of the inferior foods that are typically eaten daily can potentially render our bodies defence-less.

A Simple, Inexpensive at Home Radiation Remedy with Daniel Vitalis

Below is a YouTube video from Daniel Vitalis discussing the nuclear fallout in Japan, the potential effects on the planet as a whole and a simple strategy to protect yourself.

The components used in the video for making your own kelp caps include: kelp powder, a capsule filler machine, as well as empty capsules.

If making your own, when buying the capsules and machine, be sure to buy a matching set. Capsules have a certain "size" such as single-oh and double-oh represented by "0" and "00" respectively. Just be sure the capsule filling machine accepts the capsule size that you have.
