There are different types of juicers on the market, all having their advantages and disadvantages. When writing our juicer reviews we reviewed top products in each juicing category, with the Green Star juicer, and therefore the twin gear juicers being one of our top picks.

To start you have the twin gear juicer, with examples in that category being the Green Power juicer and Green Star. Then there are single auger juicers like the Omega 8001 and the Hurom (a relatively small juicer). The Champion juicer is an example of a masticating juicer. Lastly, there are the centrifugal (like the Omega 9000) and the centrifugal ejection (like the Omega 4000 and the Breville Juice fountain) juicers.

Twin gear juicers

Twin gear juicers have the highest nutrient quality, leaving the dryest pulp. In essence, you get the most juice from your vegetables with twin gear juicers. If sealed in glass jars and placed in the fridge, the juice from the twin gears will keep for 24 or more hours. These juicers juice greens very well and they are relatively easy to clean. Spending around the $400 range will land you a very high quality juicer in this category. The Green Star is a popular product among raw foodists.

Green Star Elite 5000 juicer

Green Star Elite JuicerWith The Green Star Elite Juice Extractor, you can juice a wider variety of fruits and vegetables – from carrots and apples, to wheat grass and even pine needles.

You can also use the Green Star Elite to make other delicious foods such as baby foods, bread sticks, nut butters, pates, frozen fruit sorbets, and much more.

Single auger juicers

Popular single auger juicers are the Hurom and Omega VRT330. There is essentially no difference between the two… they are from the same manufacturer. The single auger juicers work very well with wheatgrass and other greens. However, the juice ends up having a lot of pulp in it, so if you aren’t interested in the extra bulk (fiber) from the pulp, the extra step of straining the juice in a nut milk bag is necessary. It is actually easier and faster to juice with a single auger than a twin gear, however, clean up time is about the same.

Masticating juicers

The Champion masticating juicer works well juicing fruits, carrots and other vegetables. There have been complaints that this juicer will heat the juice slightly, resulting in oxidation, especially when juicing greens. The twin gear and single auger juicers, in our opinion, outperform masticating juicers, in regards to the nutrient quality of the fruit and vegetable juice.

Centrifugal juicers

With centrifugal ejection juicers the pulp comes out quite wet (wasted juice) and you are better off not trying to juice greens at all. However, of all centrifugal ejection juicers, we feel the best one is the Breville Juice Fountain. With it you are able to juice a lot of vegetables at one time. We didn’t like the non-ejection centrifugal juicers at all.

The Breville juicer is an OK machine, but in general we found that we had to constantly empty pulp from the non-ejection centrifugals while juicing. If you are looking for a cheap juicer this might be the category to look at. Having a cheap juicer is much better than having no juicer!

Commercial juicer

An incredible, but very expensive, commercial-quality juicer (industrial juicer) is the Norman Walker juicer (Norwalk). The juice from the Norwalks can store for up to 3 days in sealed jars in the fridge. These machines are the most user-UNfriendly but after studying the manual and getting the hang of it, you are in for some very high quality juice.
